There are many exercises that have terrific benefits that are associated with a better pregnancy. But there are also exercises that are very dangerous to do during a pregnancy. Most cardio exercises are very healthy for the mother and baby during pregnancy. Things like heavy lifting and squats are very dangerous to do during a pregnancy. Heavy lifting is dangerous due to the high risk of hernia (yes women can get a hernia). If a pregnant mother suffers a hernia it can cause emergency surgery and may cause health issues with the pregnancy. Heavy lunges and squats are dangerous to do during pregnancy, because your body produces a hormone called relaxin. It’s designed to help lubricate joints so labor is easier. When joints are too “lax,” your risk of injury increases.
