Dr. Sajan K Hegde is one of the most experienced and renowned spine surgeons in the country. He has pioneered numerous innovative techniques in the field. He is the Chief Spine surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. He has extensive experience both in India and abroad. He is considered by some to be a world authority in the field. He has pioneered the use of many modern instrumentation systems, for Example, the Cotrel – Dubousset, the Moss Miami, The Ray cages (PLIF), the BAK cages and the Harms Mesh Systems in India. His present work covers almost the entire range of spinal disorders including deformities, low back, tumor, trauma, Infection & cervical spine surgery. He is credited with introducing Arthroplastic reconstruction of the lumbar and cervical discs with artificial discs in India. A first for an Indian spine surgeon: He has designed in collaboration with Medtronic Sofamor Danek (MSD) a comprehensive spinal instrumentation system for anterior fixation in a variety of spinal problems including spinal deformities, tumors, infections and injuries. The system is awaiting FDA clearance and will be marketed internationally by MSD. It is called “The Pegasus”.

I had consulted dr hegde before 8 years for my Uncle’s (Kaka) problem (displacement of disc between L4 &L5 and patient feels acute and continious pain in left leg). Dr hegde operated by removing the displaced/damaged disc confidently. Since after 6 months, my Uncle spending his normal life without stated problem. He is motor cycling regularly till now.
